Updates & Patching

Keep servers, PCs and devices protected with regular, managed updates and patching.

Managed Updates and Patching for Your Business

As threats evolve, patches are issued to protect hardware and software. HTL Support will oversee patches and updates for your PCs, servers and networking equipment and will even look after often ignored IoT devices, such as thermostats and alarms, as these too can be vulnerable.

What We Keep Up-to-date

We look after patching for the core systems your business relies on.

Servers and operating systems

Windows Server, desktop OS and key backend services.

User devices

Laptops and PCs, including remote and hybrid workers.

Often-forgotten IoT and edge devices

Things like thermostats, alarms and cameras that can still be used as an entry point.

Network devices

Firewalls, routers and switches where firmware updates are critical.

Applications

Common business apps where patches close security gaps and bugs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will patching cause downtime for our systems?

Some updates do require reboots or short service interruptions, but we plan patching windows carefully and, where possible, carry out disruptive work out of hours. Critical security patches are prioritised, and we’ll agree in advance how to handle them.

We balance security, stability and business impact. Critical security patches are applied quickly; less urgent updates may be grouped into scheduled maintenance windows. We also test certain updates where there’s a higher risk of compatibility issues.

Skipping patches for too long is risky. Many attacks specifically target known, unpatched vulnerabilities. Where there are genuine compatibility concerns, we’ll look for workarounds or phased approaches rather than simply ignoring updates.

We aim to cover common third-party applications where patch management tools support them. For more specialist software, we’ll work with vendors and your internal team to agree responsibilities.

Regular reporting shows patch status across servers, endpoints and key applications. Any exceptions are highlighted, and we’ll agree actions and timelines to bring them back into line.
